Dove -'Make Friends with Your Hair'

I've been through quite a few hair transformations over the past 18 months.  I went from long and brown to long and red, to long and red with bangs, to short and brown with bangs, to medium and brown no bangs.

I clearly have some peace to make with my hair.

After all those changes, my hair was pretty dry and unhappy - which is partially the reason behind cutting it so short.  I'm not a short hair kind of girl, though, so I've finally realized that I want the same hair color and style that I started with all those many changes ago.  Of course.

Hair is a really personal thing for a lot of women; something upon which self esteem can hinge.  When my hair looks good, I feel great.  And likewise, when it's a little wonky (like when I cut my own bangs- remember that???) I feel off kilter.  Dove understands that, which is why they're using the angle of making friends with your hair as the launching pad for their newest spokesperson.

For the past several weeks, spokesperson wannabes have been uploading videos explaining their personal paths from foe to friend when it comes to their hair.  Some of the videos are pretty funny - you can click here to check them out.  While you're there, vote for your favorite of the top three finalists; one of whom will be voted the new Dove spokesperson.  My favorite is Mandy W's - I like that she identifies her hair with the Mad Hatter.  Pretty cute.

On a personal level, Dove's newest line of hair products - Nourishing Oil Care - have turned the texture and manageability of my hair around.  I'd been using a product line that was supposed to be ultra-moisturizing but was definitely NOT.  Up until a few weeks ago, my hair was brittle and frizzy.  So when Dove sent me the shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave in conditioner (a lot of conditioning options!) and smoothing serum; it was like a gift from the beauty gods.  When I run out of these products, I'm going to purchase them myself.  Because I think a nice scent and great results from products go a long way in maintaining that friendship with my hair!

* Hair products were provided to me by Dove for review; my experience with the products is my own and is not influenced by their free-ness.

Everyday Bombshell

I absolutely love my new Jessica London dress.  It's like nothing I own already, with it's long ruched sleeves and the rich, sapphire blue color.  I'm excited to wear it on a date because the neckline plunges in a flattering pleated surplice style.  However, for its first outting I wore the dress to work.  Definitely not a place for any kind of plunging neckline.  So I covered it up with a peppy yellow scarf.   It served two purposes - coverage and a dose of sunshine.

Black Friday the Bombshell Way

For all of you Bombshells who get up at midnight and shop til you drop on Black Friday- kudos!  I truly hope you snap up some sweet deals.  But there's no way in hell you'll find me, elbow to elbow, with you!

Instead, I'll do my Black Friday shopping from the comfort of my home, in my pajamas sipping a mimosa.  Here's where I'm shopping!

Twenty-five percent off the entire site + SWAK bucks to be used in January (when you'll totally want to shop again but will still be paying for Christmas....)?  I'm in.  All in.  I've got my eye on these pieces:

Open Cardigan in Teal
Alex Off the Shoulder Top in Stone

City Chic quality and style at sixty percent off...that's something for which to give thanks!  These two pieces caught my eye, though I doubt it's all that will wind up in my shopping cart.

Coco Printed Spot U-Wire Bra & Panty Set
Dexy Zip Me Up Dress

Talbots is a little spendy, but with 30% off  (including already reduced items!) and free shipping, I can snap up some of the items I've been lusting after for a while.

Luxe Flannel Skirt
Peplum Dress

As if thirty percent off weren't enough, free shipping both ways makes purchases from Kiyonna a no-brainer.  Here's what I'm going to give a try:

Lovely Lovedrobe

Over the past year or so, I've enjoyed getting to know British plus size brand Lovedrobe.  The clothes are always a little quirky, definitely cute, and feature special details.  They sent me two pieces from their latest collection, and I was completely delighted!

I'm in-between sizes right now and the tops were a little snug; so for now I'll show you how I plan to style the pieces once I have them altered a bit to fit my shape.

The flirty ruffles on this top are so much fun!  I'm going to pair this one with black leggings, a cropped cardigan and black booties.  The neckline is embellished with a sparkly strand of beads, so no necklace is necessary.  Instead, I'll go for big earrings and a chunky bracelet.

Lia Sophia Cuff Bracelet

The heart pattern on this fluttery dress (which really fits more like a top) is cute without being cutesy.  The flowing shape begs for a little definition, so I'm going to add a thick belt to the waist.  Jeggings and ballet flats will round out the look; along with a dangly layered necklace.

I was in such a hurry to get dressed and out the door, that I didn't realize until later in the day that I'd pulled on a pair of leggings instead of tights with this outfit.

Everyday Bombshell

I went on a girls' get-away with some friends this weekend; we drove to a nearby hotel/casino for a night of drinks, dancing and friendship.  I picked a really comfortable outfit for the car ride up to the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN.

We had a really fun time dancing in the bar; good thing my knit sweater dress was cozy but not heavy - or I would have had some serious over-heating issues!

This is a new dress that I got from Avenue during their most recent 40% off sale.  It goes just below my knee and will be great for work, nights out, maybe even Thanksgiving.

Everyday Bombshell

I discovered, completely by accident, a new way to wear this gray sweatshirt blazer- a piece that's been a staple in my wardrobe for at least two years now.  Worn with the lapels down, standard blazer.  Worn with the lapels flipped up, new and interesting. Love that!

Everyday Bombshell

I've been wearing the heck out of my Avenue jeggings; and they've yet to show even the slightest sign of wearing out or losing their shape.  I've done an almost complete wardrobe 180 - now I'm constantly on the lookout for cute tops and tees to wear with my jeggings.

Everyday Makeup

I'm absolutely addicted to one particular YouTube channel, these days: Goss Makeup Artist. Wayne (Wade?  Can't recall his first name...I know, what a terrible fan I am) is a British makeup artist.  His videos are informative and interesting, and I've learned so many great tips from him.

I've often wondered how to create a more complicated, but still flattering, eyeshadow look.  And he taught me how to achieve a look called the 'cut crease.'

I used products by Mark to create my smokey look - and let me tell you, I thought Wayne was crazy when he started drawing right across his eyelid with a freaking black eyeliner pencil....well - here, just take a look for yourself.  I dare you not to feel inspired:

Eye Products:
I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Biscotti (shimmery cream)- all over eyelid
I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Corset (black) - in crease
No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Jet (black) - in crease, along top & bottom lash lines
Lash All You Want High Volume Mascara in Black - two coats on top lashes, one coat on bottom

Everyday Bombshell

Well, hello there!  Where the heck did last week go?  I really can't tell you, except to say that I wore this outfit one of those missing days:

I haven't worn this dress in ages; the print is so springy but I've noticed that it makes more appearances in the late fall/early winter than spring.  I really like grounding the crisp blue and white with dark shades of brown and black.  Yep, it's hard to notice but my boots are dark chocolate brown and my jacket is black.

Facebook Flash Sale- LucieLu

And I really do mean flash sale- as in, gone in a flash!  Through Tuesday (Nov 8th), get 50% off Lucie's French Birdie & Poppy dresses with coupon code FBDRESS.

(L-R: French Birdie Dress in Teal, French Birdie Dress in Dusty Lavender,
Poppy Dress in Berry , Poppy Dress in Taupe)

Not only is that one helluva steal (seriously...50% off!) but these dresses are genuinely cute.  They're on-trend, color-wise, this fall and winter; the screen print on each is whimsical but wearable; and the style is really flattering on curvy women.  I like the built-in lace cami detail that simultaneously highlights the bust without any undue exposure.  I'd wear the French Birdie in Teal or the Poppy Dress in Berry with tights and blazer at work; or with tights and heels on a date.

If you've never made a LucieLu purchase, this would be a great first one.  And if you're already a LucieLu fan, then I'm already preaching to the choir. Either way, this offer ends on Tuesday - so jump on it.

Everyday Bombshell

I mentioned a few weeks ago in a guest blog post for Sealed with a Kiss that I'm dedicated to not falling into the black trap this fall/winter.  Last year, I wore sooo much black!  And you know what?  I felt a little gloomier for it.  Now that's not to say that black and other dark neutrals are banned from my wardrobe.  Not at all.  But I'm stocking up on a few colorful pieces to set off dark counterparts.

I came to another realization lately- I've accidentally adopted as a signature look the whole belt-over-a-sweater thing.  I really like the way my clothes look with the added shape of a belt to define my waist.  But I'm a little tired of belting over sweaters.  So I'm going to try a few other variations, like belting under a cardigan.  It creates a similar effect without feeling monotonous.

Everyday Bombshell

I slipped on a pair of tights today, for the first time this season.  I'm pretty sure my bare legs will not be seen again until April.  Tights are a tricky thing, don't you think?

I experimented with a couple brands last year - ranging from Target to Express to Lane Bryant - but none of them really wowed me.  So I picked up a few pairs this week while returning a few items to Avenue.  And I gotta say...I think Avenue's tights are fantastic!  I have four requirements against which I measure tights.
  1. Length- At 6' tall, I need a pair that is long enough.  If the waistband doesn't come up over my navel, I'm just going to spend the whole day tugging at them.
  2. Opacity - I like my tights dark black.  No light patches over the larger parts of my thighs or knees, please!
  3. Soft and cozy - I don't want anything itchy against my skin.
  4. Price - I'm not shelling out more than $10 for a pair of tights.  Period.
Avenue was a winner on all accounts.  Length is perfect, the tights are very dark black, they feel nice and soft, and at 2 for $15 (plus another 30% off thanks to an in-store sale!) I felt good about stocking up. I bought basic black tights and a pair of sweater tights that will be superb once the snow starts flying in the next few weeks.  The selection of tights is much better in-store than online, but you certainly can find a few in their online store.

Shop My Closet- Now Live!

If you've ever seen an article of clothing, shoes or accessories that I've worn here on Bombshell Beauty and thought you'd like to own it, too - now's your chance!  My clothing size has fluctuated a bit over the past few years and I find myself needing to whittle down my closet to those items that truly fit, now.  There are so many great pieces I've worn and loved,  that I'll feel better knowing they're going to a good home.

Most of the items are things I've purchased, while some of the items are pieces that were given to me, for free, from various plus size clothing partners.  I wouldn't feel right making money off anything I didn't buy myself.  So I've decided to donate all proceeds from every sale to the Channel Design Vision Team for Common Hope - a  mission team I'm a part of that will be going to Guatemala in March to work on behalf of Common Hope

So in addition to getting some cute new clothes, you can feel good knowing that the money paid will be going to a non-profit organization with a great purpose.

As you go through the Shop My Closet page you can click on the item description and will be taken to the selling page on eBay.  I hope you find a few things you like - and I would love to know how you plan to style anything that you buy!
