Everyday Bombshell: Year in Review

Posting pictures of my outfits was something new for this year. I started doing it in June and have had a lot of fun with it; I've felt more inspired to really dress for myself. And all the amazing comments that you guys leave are a huge motivator!

One of the more interesting things about having a log of my outfits is that I've gone back and looked at each of them and could remember what I was doing/thinking/feeling - completely triggered by what I was wearing! Here's a snapshot of my favorites:

Fashion Resolutions for 2011

Like a lot of people, I'm a huge fan of getting all introspective and making New Year's resolutions come Dec 31st. And while I enjoy the process of applying resolutions to my personal life, I love to make fashion resolutions! So much more fun than resolving to drink more tea and less wine in the coming year.

I'm at the point in my life where I no longer feel the need to make a major overhaul to my look every year. Instead, I'm going to focus my fashion energies in 2011 toward refining my style and having fun with leopard prints, color, and different textures.

Leopard Prints

Fun with Color

Variety of Textures

I'm also going to make a concentrated effort to balance where I spend my wardrobe $$: at both big stores and with smaller, independent labels. I think small businesses are so important to a community - whether it's as close as your local neighborhood or a broader one like our plus size community. But I also appreciate what mainstream brands and stores do. There's room for everyone as long as we remember to support the Lane Bryants and the LucieLus.

What are you going to focus on in 2011?

Everyday Bombshell

There's been so much fun and festivity packed into the past several weeks! I wore this outfit to one of the last parties scheduled for the season:

The "ta-da!" element of the outfit is the lime green scarf shot through with silver tinsel. It was a gift from a good friend, so it carries the combined joy of looking cute and reminding me of friendship. Here's a closer look:

And, just for fun, here's an outtake shot in which I accidentally captured Dan (being silly) in the background.

The Outfit:
Green scarf - gift from Beth (thanks!)
Striped shirt- Apt 9, from Kohl's
Gray denim skirt - Gap
Black ruched leggings - Lane Bryant
Suede boots - Payless
Silver bangles - Karma

24 Gifts of Christmas

Forget the iPhone and the online organizers. I don't carry a Blackberry or a Smartphone with my calendar and contacts stored next to my favorite web pages and emails. I prefer my organizational tools to be a little more old fashioned, a little less instant, a bit more tactile. Which is why I'm handing this out as the last gift of Christmas - the Jane Street Debra Pocket Organizer from Kate Spade:

Packed with pockets for business cards, ID cards and more; along with refillable calendars and address pages, there's something so civilized and delightful about pulling this leather organizer from your purse and consulting it before committing to plans for the weekend.

This has been a fun 24 days of virtual gift giving. I hope it's inspired some ideas for giving gifts in your real life, both to your loved ones and yourself!

Enter my Apothica give-away for the chance to give yourself the gift of $25 to Winner to be chosen on Dec 26, so enter here today. And for a second chance to win this great prize, enter the Apothica give-away over on T Minus, T Plus!

24 Gifts of Christmas

Whenever I'm not sure what to take as a hostess gift to a party, I always swing by Williams Sonoma. Whether the host and hostess are pros in the kitchen, or if they'd rather eat out every meal, there's something wonderful and just perfect to be found at this store. Case in point?

The Perfect Endings Vintage Devils Food Cake. Ordered from the Williams Sonoma web site, this lucious confection is shipped overnight direct from the Perfect Endings bakery in California. Three velvety layers sandwiches between the most delicious chocolate fudge frosting, this cake will elicit ooohs and ahhs from any hostess whose home you grace with its (and your!) presence.

Time is running out to enter the Apothica Gift Card Give-Away. Enter here And for another chance to win this fabulous prize, be sure to enter the give-away being held by T Minus, T Plus!

24 Gifts of Christmas

I met Maddy Figuera-Jones, founder and editor of Plus Model Magazine, this past summer and she is one fun, busy woman! Her schedule makes my head spin, and her passion for the plus size industry is equally dizzying...and inspiring. In addition to advocating for more opportunities for plus size models, she's one of the most beautiful women I've ever laid eyes on. (Did I mention that she's a former model herself?). I think she would look amazing in this sequin-spackled cocktail dress from Babyphat:

A gorgeous fun dress, for a gorgeous fun lady!

24 Gifts of Christmas

Today's gift is one I'd like to give to any Bombshell interested in creating a gorgeously easy smokey eye. My brother and sister-in-law gave me a Stila Smudge Pot for Christmas this year (don't tell them I opened their present early!). Though my makeup bag is full of Stila products, this is my first smudge pot. I receive the pot in Bronze, which is a gorgeously deep, slightly glimmery shade. See?

Though the lasting power of the Smudge Pot is somewhat unimpressive, it's definitely worth the effort to reapply if needed. I like to think this product is the lazy girl's guide to creating a really pretty, uncomplicated smokey eye. And although it's available in several shades ranging from black to blue, I love Bronze.

24 Gifts of Christmas

My husband and I trade off holidays between our families. We spent Thanksgiving with my family this year, so we'll be with his for Christmas. I'm excited because, although we all live within about 20 miles of each other, the family has decided to have a slumber party on Christmas Eve. This got me thinking about pajamas and slippers...and my mother in law, Sue. Sue always has really cute slippers to wear around her house, so today's gift is just for her.

This is the Acorn 'Marlow' Slipper in charcoal. It's cute, thanks to the embroidered swirl across the slipper, and warm thanks to lucious boiled wool. The ultimate luxury!
